    1. Atlas - A book of maps is called an atlas.

    2. Scale - A measurement on the map which represents the distance on earth.
 
    3. Title - The title tells us about the map and the type of information we will get from it.

    4. Key or legend - A legend or key is a tool used to understand symbols and colours used in a map.

    Q a. What is a sketch?
    Ans. A sketch is a rough free hand drawing based on one's observation and memory.

    Q b. What is a grid?
    Ans. The horizontal and vertical lines which run across the surface of the globe and cross each other is called a grid.

    Q c. Name the four intermediary directions.
    Ans. Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest.

    Q d. Write two advantages of a map.
    Ans. The advantages of a map are as follows:
            1. It helps us find a particular place.
            2. A map is easy to carry.
            3. A map can show many things such as roads, railways, bridges, etc.

    Q 1. What kind of problems do you think sailors and explorers faced before the invention of maps and globes?
    Ans. Sailors and explorers had difficulty in finding directions as there were no maps then and it was difficult to understand the direction in which their ship was sailing.
