   IMPORTANT POINTS TO REVISE  

    1.    Flowers-When a plant grows to its full size, it starts producing flowers.  Flowers can be of different colours, sizes and shapes. A flower slowly changes into a fruit over time. 

    2.  Functions of flowers 
  • Flowers are colourful and have a sweet smell to attract insects, animals and birds. They make the plant look attractive.
  • In many plants, flowers change into fruits which contain seeds and help the plant to reproduce.
  • Some flowers can be eaten. Examples- Cauliflower and broccoli.

    3. Functions of fruits 
  • The fruit protects the seed inside it.
  • Seeds from the fruit give rise to new plants.
   The banana plant is one of the largest herb on the earth.
    4. Seeds
  • The seed contain baby plants in them
  • The seed grows into a new plant if it gets enough water, air and warmth.
  • The seedling grows into a new plant.
  • Many seeds as peanuts, maize and beans are eaten as food.
    5. Uses of plants
  • Plants give us oxygen, which all living things need to survive.
  • They clean the air and help to reduce pollution.
  • Plants produce food for all other living organisms.
  • Plants also help in reducing the noise pollution, hence trees are planted near hospitals and school premises.
  • Dead plants are used to make manure.
  • Wood comes from plants – trees provide us with timber and firewood.
  • Furniture like tables, chairs, windows, doors, etc. is made of wood.
  • Oil is extracted from seeds of some plants. Example-
    sunflower oil, groundnut oil, mustard oil, almond oil and coconut oil.
  • Perfumes are made from the flowers of some plants. Example- rose, jasmine, lavender etc.
  • Many seeds and fruits from plants are eaten as food.
