     EXPLANATION ON SKETCH AND PLAN

    SKETCH

Sometimes, we draw rough drawings from our memory to explain the route to a particular place. Such a rough drawing is called a sketch. Sketches do not have too many details.

   PLAN

A plan gives us an idea of a place when viewed from
top. Architects use plans for designing houses, buildings, playgrounds or parks.
It gives a detailed information about a place.

EXPLANATION ON WHAT IS A MAP

A map is a flat drawing of the earth, created on a paper or a flat surface. Maps show us the location of different places and   guide us with directions. They give us information about the location of rivers, hills, continents, countries and their
states and capitals.

    HOW TO READ A MAP?

    Title
    Direction

    TYPES OF MAPS

    PHYSICAL MAPS

A physical map shows natural features of a place, such as forests, mountains, rivers, etc. For example, the physical map of India shows the different rivers, oceans, mountains, etc. of India.

    POLITICAL MAPS

A political map shows countries and their international and state borders. We can also locate the capital of each state on a political map. For example, the political map of India given below shows the borders of various states in India along with the location of their capitals. It also shows India’s international
border.

    THEMATIC MAPS

Thematic maps give specific information on a theme. For example, types of soils in India, types of crops grown in India, etc.
